UPDATE 5-2-16: Geoff has shared an updated video of his diorama.

We have an Incredible Diorama built by Geoffrey Lucier,
of the Martian War machines. Absolutely breathtaking!!!
Take a look at the amazing fire effect he created with the tank.

Here is what he had to say.

Here is my take on the War Of The Worlds using
Starling Technologies great sound & lighting FX kits.
This is a diorama I've just completed based on a
scene from the 1953 version of this film I call
"Rout At Rocky Ridge".
I managed to pack all the kit components
inside each Martian war machine along with an
on/off switch, hope you enjoy it.

I put flickering blue LEDs in the recessed holes in which
the Lexan rods are mounted. I also decided to eliminate the
tacky glue to secure the top of the rods to the underside
of the war machine as I described in the earlier version
scene in the city setting.
What I ended up doing was to file down the backside of
the green plastic inserts in the ship's underside so that
they sat about the 1/8 of an inch below the surface
instead of being flush. The change is practically
invisible and creates a nice recessed area for the rods
to sit in. It is also much more stable than using tacky glue (and neater too).
